Why choose you beauty clinic for this treatment?

We’ve invested in the highest grade of machinery as we wanted to avoid the many low-grade machines in the market being offered by other establishments. Our manufacturer patented the first pulsed dye laser and is at the forefront of this technology. Whether you go to a clinic, hospital or salon, the training required to operate the machinery is the same and carried out by the same people. Our insurance also stipulates very strict guidelines that are the same across the industry. We have dedicated clinicians carrying out each treatment.

What are acrylic nails?

A mixture of liquid acrylic (monomer) and polymer, which is an acrylic powder, is applied to the nail. Acrylics can be whole or partial, used over the entire nail or simply as tips.

What are gel nails?

A gel nail is typically a pre-mixed polymer and monomer gel that is first applied to the nail and then cured under ultra-violet lights.

What causes acrylic or gel nails to lift?

This can happen for many reasons. Acrylics take 24 – 48 hours to fully cure, and a slight knock during that time can cause the acrylics to lift. Other reasons for lifting include: diseased nail plate, not maintaining regular infills, nicotine, fruit acids such as lemons, oranges, and other citrus fruits, harsh detergents, using a acetone based nail polish remover, medication, stress, misuse of nails, occupation, picking and biting, excessive use of oils and creams, or even just wearing the nail too long can cause lifting.

Can i put acrylics back on immediately after soaking off the old acrylics?

Yes, it’s fine to re-apply acrylics straight away as natural nails are made up of keratin (protein) so nails don’t breathe. If you have ripped your acrylics off causing the natural nail to thin however, then you might want to wait to harden the nails back up, as the acrylics will just add more stress on top of damaged nails. For best results, apply a nail hardener once a week to strengthen the nails, and cuticle oil every night to nourish and promote healthy nail growth.

What is a pink and white nail service?

“Pink and white” refers to the use of two colors of acrylic applied to the nails to produce a natural-looking french manicure that’s more permanent.

What is an overlay?

When either acrylic or gel is applied over the natural nail without the need of a nail extension.

What is nail fungus and how can it be prevented?

Nail fungus will show as a white area under the nail, as if the natural nail is pulling away from the nail bed. The right application and maintenance of the nail extension will help prevent a nail fungus, as well as using products such as a nail antiseptic.

How can i prevent the nail polish from staining my nails?

Nails often turn yellowish when a strong, pigmented polish is applied. To prevent pigmentation, put 1 – 2 layers of base coat on prior to applying the coloured polish so it acts as a barrier.

Why choose elemis?

Elemis was born out of the vision to bring together the power of nature, science and aromatics.

What is an active ingredient?

An active ingredient is the most potent part of the plant extract. Elemis take the first extraction, which can be hundreds of times more effective than the last extraction from the same extract. (similar to how a tea bag works – the first cup of tea is strong and intense; the more it’s used in additional cups, the weaker and less effective it becomes.

Do elemis products contain alcohol?

Yes but there are many alcohols that are very beneficial to the skin including cetyl, stearyl, cetearyl and lanolin alcohols. Some other alcohols may be considered drying to the skin if used in large quantities, but elemis avoids those.

Does elemis test on animals?

No. The only animal byproducts in their products are honey, beeswax and milk proteins.

What are clinical trials?

Elemis invests heavily in independent clinical trials to discover the efficacy of their products on the skin. This is much more accurate and realistic than focus trials or the “battle of percentages” (as it’s commonly known) for eg. “99% of women felt their skin looked smoother”.

In all independent clinical trials, products must achieve a ‘statistically significant’ effect on the skin, otherwise they go back into re-formulation and re-efficacy trials. Products not proven to be effective will not be launched into the market, and customer feedback is constantly monitored.

Do elemis products contain preservatives?

Elemis only use preservatives where absolutely necessary for the safety of the product. They also use some natural preservatives such as benzyl alcohol and some synthetic preservatives where there are no suitable alternatives.

A lot of waxing is often down to the technique and experience of the therapist. Strip wax is fast and works very well on large areas like the legs. Hot wax is good for strong hair in sensitive areas, such as the bikini. The warmth of the wax also opens the pores, so should make the treatment less painful.

Your hair should be at least a ¼ inch (about the length of a grain of rice) to allow the wax to grip around the hair. If it’s your first time waxing, we recommend you refrain from shaving for at least two weeks before your reservation.
